May is Better Hearing and Speech Month
Did you know 48 million experience hearing loss?
May is Better Hearing and Speech Month and Audiology and Hearing Aid Services is using this important observance to encourage the residents of Savannah and the surrounding communities to have their hearing tested.
Hearing loss is one of the most common, chronic conditions that Americans experience. Yet many people wait years or even decades to take any action to treat their hearing loss. During the month of May, we want to take this special opportunity to inform our neighbors on how and where they can connect with help for hearing and other related conditions – and why it is important that they do so.
Many people underestimate their degree of hearing loss, as well as the impact that it is having on their lives. Even mild hearing loss that goes untreated can lead to lasting negative health impacts. For adults, untreated hearing loss is increasingly connected to cognitive decline and social isolation.
As a first step, we recommend that anyone with concerns about their hearing, or even a loved one’s hearing to have a hearing evaluation completed.
