Hearing Protection

Protect your ears to protect your hearing!

Exposure to noise causes hearing loss. Ear infections from exposure to water cause hearing loss. On the job or just having fun, it’s important to protect your ears to protect your hearing. Audiology and Hearing Services has the custom earmolds and earplug you need to protect your hearing.

Musicians’ ear protection

Musicians have unique needs when it comes to hearing protection.  Every practice session and every performance put their hearing at risk of damage from excessive noise. Standard hearing protection isn’t a viable option because it doesn’t cater to their personalized needs. Musicians must still be able to hear their voice and instrument, as well as the other musical sounds around them. This requires specialized protection.

Musicians’ earplugs and earmolds fit in the ear and ear canal. They can be custom made. These devices feature an attenuator that allows some sound through. They reduce the decibel level without distorting the sound. Studies performed in industrial settings show that custom protection provides more hearing protection than off-the-shelf devices.

Musicians’ in-ear monitors conserve hearing while replacing standard stage monitors. These devices allow you to hear your voice and music while you perform without the dangerous amplification. Because they replace stage monitors, they are easier to move and automatically adapt to the acoustics of any venue.

Sound suppression for hunting

The sound of gunfire can be exhilarating. At 120-160 decibels, it is also damaging to your ears. Protect your ears to protect your hearing while practicing at the range and while out on the hunt. Earplugs and earmolds for hunters suppress the dangerous decibels while amplifying the lower decibels so you hear every twig snap around you.

Constant exposure to water and wind is more than irritating. It can set the stage for chronic ear infections that put your hearing at risk. Custom molds for swimmers keep out wind and water to protect your ears, but still allow you to hear the coach, the competition and the environment around you.
